It all began as I was sitting shyly in the back of a weight loss class.I knew nobody, but I was so serious about losing weight and getting more fit.I sat there listening to Salle talk about her walking group. I thought that it would be fun to be with a group. I told her that I was going to TRY to do a half marathon. She shot me down. You WILL do a half marathon. I did some walking on weekends with the group. It was fun to see my new friends. I was so proud of myself when I ran over that finish line. I always try to run over the finish line, it looks so good in the photo they usually take. I've finished 12 Half marathons (13.1 miles) and one Full (26.2 miles). I have stopped my marathons since Salle left the St. Louis area. You are so lucky to have her there. I will take the challenge and will start my walking. You are so motivating.

Hmmm. Being that Salle is my adopted "Jewish Mom" it only seems fitting that she puts out this latest blog to GUILT me into getting off my big rear end and exercising! When I met Salle many years ago, she was my Weight Watchers leader. Her enthusiasm is infectious (I dare anyone to try and not get excited about eating right and exercising when you're around Salle!)! She motivated me to get moving and eventually I was joining her and Mal in getting prepared for a marathon. Well I did it! My first marathon was such a great experience, as has each one been since. Although I will warn you, if you ever happen to fall during a marathon and break a limb, don't expect any sympathy from Salle! She just walked over my body and left me to fend for myself! Thank God Mal took pity on me and helped me up so that I could DRIVE MYSELF to the hospital. (from Salle - "You know I was going for my personal best! Wasn't I at least nice making Mal stay with you? Then I yelled at him later for cutting in on the race to get back in. So, I'm a little obsessive!"

Anyway, I wish I could say that I've kept up my commitment to exercise but it's not so. As a result, I now weigh more than I ever have and get winded walking up the stairs at home. So, even though Salle isn't going to pay me $50 bucks every time I exercise, I am publicly commiting to exercise every day for the next 21 days. I have a membership to Gold's Gym, so I can't use the excuse that it's too cold here in Missouri to keep from getting out of my LazyBoy! And I challenge everyone out there who reads Salle's blog - let's do this together and see how we feel at the end of 21 days! December 23 is our deadline, which is just in time for Christmas! What a great present to ourselves, to have started a new, healthy habit that will probably ensure that we're around for a few more (healthy) Christmas's, Hannukah's, Kwanza's, or whatever you celebrate!

Thanks, "Mom" for guilting me into taking better care of myself!

Love ya, Wayde
